To educate children about their rights and responsibilities, promoting legal literacy and empowering them for their rights, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Budgam, the Legal Services Unit for Children Budgam (LSUC) organized a legal awareness program for children at Alasma Educational Institute Budgam.
The programme was held under the supervision of O.P. Bhagat, Chairman, DLSA, Budgam and under the guidance of Nusrat Ali Hakak, Secretary DLSA Budgam and Principal, Alasma Educational Institute, Budgam.
In his address, Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC), Budgam, Yawar Ali, emphasized that the primary objective of the programme was to educate children including those with disabilities, transgender children, and the ones rescued from trafficking, child marriage, abuse, or denied access to education, about their legal rights and protections.
The event focused on raising awareness about child protection laws, constitutional and legal rights of children, and the mechanisms available to ensure legal aid and assistance to children in need of care and protection. It also highlighted the vital role of legal services institutions in promoting access to justice for every child, particularly those facing mental health, social, or economic vulnerabilities.
Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsel, Budgam, Shaista Gani also addressed the gathering. She, along with other resource persons, delivered insightful presentations and engaged participants in interactive discussions on child rights, the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, the POCSO Act, and other important legislations.
Speakers underscored how timely legal intervention, counselling, and awareness can prevent the exploitation and marginalization of children and ensure their holistic development.
