Locals Demand Immediate Action on Drainage and Road Construction

DH NEWS SERVICE
RS Pura, july 30
Torrential rains have once again brought life to a standstill in the Kashmiri Basti area of RS Pura, exposing the inefficiency and lack of preparedness of the local administration. Due to continuous heavy rainfall, streets in the locality were submerged under 2 to 3 feet of water, leaving residents trapped in their homes for hours and severely affecting vehicular and pedestrian movement.
Residents expressed strong discontent over the longstanding issue of poor drainage and incomplete roadwork, especially in the lane near the Kashmiri Basti Shiv Mandir. The situation became so dire that even walking was difficult, with homes and entrances inundated and access to the main road cut off.
Former Panch of the area, Chandra Prakash Sharma, stated,
“Despite repeated appeals and follow-ups with the concerned departments and the local MLA, no progress has been made on the construction of the road and drainage system in our lane. We have only received hollow assurances. Today’s rain has once again shown the negligence of the administration.”
Echoing similar concerns, local social worker Ashok Choudhary shared,
“This morning, I found over two feet of water outside my door, making it impossible to step out. Every time we are told that the work will start soon, but nothing materializes. The people of this area are fed up with the repeated false promises.”
Residents highlighted that while other nearby streets have been completed, the stretch in question continues to be ignored, creating persistent flooding problems during every monsoon.
The residents, led by community leaders, have urgently appealed to the administration and MLA Dr. Rajiv Bhagat (Bishnah Assembly) to ensure immediate commencement of road and drainage construction in the Kashmiri Basti Shiv Mandir lane to avoid further inconvenience and health hazards.
