In an extraordinary act of bravery and professionalism, the Indian Army successfully conducted a high-risk rescue operation to save a teenage boy stranded on a small island in the flooded Naushera Tawi river in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. The incident occurred on 23rd July 2025, when sudden and heavy rains caused the river to swell, leaving the boy marooned amidst rapidly rising waters and strong currents.
The situation quickly escalated into a life-threatening emergency as the young boy clung to hope on a narrow patch of land, completely surrounded by the raging river. With no access routes due to the overflowing water and dangerous terrain, local authorities called upon the Indian Army for urgent help. Responding without hesitation, Army Aviation pilots from the White Knight Corps launched a daring rescue mission under extremely adverse weather conditions. Battling poor visibility, incessant rainfall, and treacherous winds, the pilots took off without delay, aware that every minute counted in saving the boy’s life.
Upon reaching the location, the pilots faced formidable challenges. The Tawi river was in full spate, and there were no clear landing zones due to the overflowing waters and rough terrain. Further complicating the mission were numerous wire obstacles and transmission lines in the vicinity, making a traditional airlift or landing nearly impossible.
Undeterred by the danger, the skilled pilots performed a precision low hover maneuver above the boy’s location in the middle of the river. Demonstrating exceptional airmanship and nerves of steel, they navigated around obstacles and dangerous air currents, inching the aircraft into a position that allowed a successful extraction of the terrified teenager.
The boy was safely lifted from the island and transported to the riverbank, where he was reunited with his family and given immediate care. Witnesses and locals who had gathered on the riverbank broke into applause and tears of relief, praising the Indian Army’s selfless courage and lightning-fast response.
This act of heroism once again highlighted the Indian Army’s unwavering commitment to its motto: “Service Before Self.” The pilots risked their own lives in a mission that demanded not just technical expertise but extraordinary courage, presence of mind, and compassion.
Local residents, civil authorities, and eyewitnesses hailed the Army’s timely intervention. “This was no less than a miracle. We are deeply thankful to the Indian Army for saving a life when all other options seemed impossible,” said a local community leader. This operation is a glowing testament to the Army’s role not only in guarding the nation’s borders but also in stepping in as saviors during natural calamities and humanitarian crises.
Their willingness to respond swiftly, even beyond the call of duty, reinforces the strong bond of trust and respect that exists between the Indian Army and the civilian population, especially in challenging terrains like Jammu and Kashmir.

As the rescued boy recovers from his traumatic experience, this heroic mission will be remembered as one of courage, precision, and human compassion – hallmarks of the Indian Army’s legacy of service.
