The Indian Army’s awe-inspiring “Forever in Operations Division Mountain Terrain Bicycle Expedition” concluded with great pride and enthusiasm at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass on 12 July 2025. The expedition, which began from the frozen frontiers of the Siachen Base Camp on 25 June 2025, spanned an astonishing 680 kilometers across the rugged and unforgiving terrain of Ladakh. This extraordinary journey was not just a test of physical endurance but also a symbol of resilience, patriotic fervour, and a unique outreach initiative by the Indian Army.
A team of 20 Indian Army soldiers, specially selected for their stamina and spirit, undertook this grueling expedition through some of the highest and most challenging mountain passes in the world, including the formidable Khardung La, Fotu La, and Hambuting La. Battling extreme altitudes, low oxygen levels, and fluctuating weather conditions, the soldiers showcased remarkable grit and determination throughout the expedition. Their journey highlighted the physical prowess of the Indian soldier and the Army’s ability to operate in the most difficult of terrains.
However, this expedition was more than a display of strength and endurance. It carried with it a larger purpose – to connect with the people of Ladakh, especially the youth, and to inspire them with the legacy and values of the Indian Army. As part of its extensive outreach campaign, the expedition team visited 11 government schools located in remote areas of Ladakh and interacted with over 1100 students.
The soldiers shared stories of bravery and sacrifice, particularly focusing on the Kargil War, reminding the young generation of the courage and heroism of India’s armed forces.
The team also engaged with students from Ladakh University, creating a platform to discuss leadership, nation-building, and service to the country. These interactions served as motivational sessions, encouraging students to contribute positively to society and explore opportunities to serve the nation, particularly through careers in the Indian Armed Forces.
In Leh and Silmo, the expedition team met with National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets from the 1st and 2nd Ladakh NCC Battalions.
These interactions emphasized the critical role NCC plays in shaping the character and values of India’s youth. The team leader shared insights into Army life and inspired the cadets to pursue lives of discipline, service, and dedication.
Throughout their journey, the expedition members were met with immense warmth and support from civilians and fellow Army units. Locals and soldiers along the route welcomed the team with cheers, refreshments, and tokens of appreciation, underscoring the deep bond between the Army and the people of Ladakh.
The successful culmination of the “Forever in Operations Division Mountain Terrain Bicycle Expedition” is a proud moment for the Indian Army. It not only celebrates the spirit of adventure and endurance but also strengthens the Army’s engagement with the local populace, particularly the youth.
This expedition stands as a shining example of the Indian Army’s commitment to national integration, outreach, and its indomitable spirit in every terrain, at every altitude.
