JAMMU, july 11
Senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led central government, accusing it of continuously burdening the common people of Jammu & Kashmir with anti-people policies. Reacting sharply to the proposed installation of a new toll plaza at Akhnoor, Tony said that the BJP has back-stabbed the people of Jammu region after gaining power on the promise of “Ache Din”.
“Where are the Ache Din now?” Tony questioned, adding that instead of providing relief to the people, the BJP has been relentlessly imposing new tolls, taxes, and cess, crushing the backbone of the middle class, farmers, and the poor. “The new toll plaza at Akhnoor is nothing short of a betrayal. There used to be no toll for J&K, but now we are witnessing one toll after another being erected—first Lakhanpur, Sarora, Ring Road and now Akhnoor. The BJP has turned toll collection into a business of exploitation,” he said during a meeting held here today.
Tony lamented that under 11 years of BJP rule, India is witnessing its highest levels of inflation since independence. “Mehangai Dayan (the demon of inflation) has now become the ‘Bua’ (aunt) of the BJP, as none of its leaders dare speak on price rise. Essential commodities like gas cylinders, pulses, vegetables, and fuel are beyond the reach of common people,” he said.
He also said that unemployment among youth has reached alarming levels, with qualified graduates and postgraduates either sitting idle or forced to take up menial jobs. “This is not the future people of India voted for. Every section of society—be it farmers, laborers, traders, or government employees—is feeling suffocated under the misrule of BJP,” Tony asserted. Taranjit Singh Tony emphasized that it is high time people rise above emotional slogans and divisive politics. “The people of Jammu have understood the BJP’s agenda. They are now determined to teach them a lesson. All sections of society are uniting to uproot this anti-people regime which has looted the people in the name of nationalism and development.”
Tony demanded immediate rollback of the proposed Akhnoor toll plaza and called upon the public representatives of Jammu region, especially BJP leaders, to break their silence and stand with the people who voted them to power.
