Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday asserted that Operation Sindoor, a military response launched by India in May 2025 following the terror attack in Pahalgam, had achieved all its strategic and tactical objectives. Speaking at a prestigious event at the Rashtrapati Bhavan complex, Singh emphasized that the operation had not only neutralized imminent threats but had also “injected fear” in the minds of terrorist networks operating in the region. The event was organized to commemorate the release of a curated collection of speeches delivered by President Droupadi Murmu during her second year in office. Titled ‘Wings to Our Hopes – Volume II’, the book compiles 51 significant addresses that capture the President’s vision and voice on a range of national and international issues.
In his keynote address, the Defence Minister paid rich tributes to President Murmu, describing her as a symbol of India’s inclusive democracy and strength. “This book is more than just a collection of speeches. I consider it a document for scripting India’s future,” Singh said, underlining the importance of leadership rooted in empathy, vision, and constitutional responsibility.
He said the President’s words reflect the evolving discourse of India’s democratic values, governance models, inclusivity, and its rising national aspirations. According to officials, the second volume of ‘Wings to Our Hopes’ continues the narrative begun in the first volume, offering deeper insight into the challenges and opportunities facing the country today.
Shifting focus to national security, Rajnath Singh took the opportunity to speak about Operation Sindoor – an Indian military offensive conducted in retaliation for the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam earlier this year, which claimed several innocent lives, including security personnel. He said the Indian Armed Forces, under precise and robust planning, had executed the mission with remarkable success, targeting terror infrastructure across the border and in sensitive areas.
“Operation Sindoor achieved all of its objectives,” Singh declared. “It sent a strong and unmistakable message – India will not tolerate terrorism in any form and will respond with decisive force. The operation succeeded in injecting fear into the hearts of terrorists and their sponsors.”
Although he did not go into tactical details of the operation, Singh hinted that the success of Operation Sindoor would have long-term implications in reshaping the security calculus of India’s adversaries. Defence analysts have noted that this was one of the most strategic retaliatory strikes in recent years, emphasizing India’s capability to launch calibrated and intelligence-driven military actions.
Singh also praised the coordination between intelligence agencies, the armed forces, and the government leadership, stating that this synergy was a testament to the country’s growing strength in handling asymmetric warfare and modern conflict scenarios.
The ceremony was attended by several senior dignitaries, including Union Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan. Both leaders expressed admiration for President Murmu’s contributions and noted how the book would serve as an inspiration for young Indians and policymakers alike.
The Defence Minister concluded his address by stressing the importance of collective resilience – both in governance and security. “Whether it is protecting our borders or building a just society, we must act with courage, vision and unity. President Murmu’s words, and the success of Operation Sindoor, both embody this spirit,” Singh said.
The event reflected not just the achievements of the armed forces or the eloquence of the Presidency, but the idea of a confident, assertive, and forward-looking India that draws from its constitutional values while defending its sovereignty with unwavering strength.
