Rajouri, JUNE 9
In a significant step towards community welfare and public outreach, the Indian Army organized a dedicated medical patrol for the local youth and residents in the remote villages of Gabbar and Kasheri in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. The initiative stands as a testament to the Army’s commitment to serving not only in the sphere of national defense but also in humanitarian and developmental efforts in underserved regions.
The medical patrol, conducted by a team of army medical officers and support staff, aimed to provide essential healthcare services to people living in far-flung areas where access to primary health facilities is often limited. With basic infrastructure challenges and difficult terrain often hampering consistent medical access, initiatives like these bring much-needed relief to the villagers.
A large number of local residents, including youth, elderly, women, and children, gathered to benefit from this free health check-up and consultation camp. The Army’s medical team provided services such as general health consultations, treatment for minor ailments, distribution of basic medicines, and awareness regarding hygiene and preventive healthcare. Special attention was also given to malnutrition cases and respiratory infections, which are commonly found in hilly and border areas due to harsh weather conditions and limited nutrition.
This initiative also aimed at strengthening the Indian Army’s civil-military relationship by reinforcing trust and cooperation between the local population and the armed forces. Over the years, the Indian Army has continuously worked towards winning hearts and minds in the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir through such people-centric initiatives. This event further solidified the Indian Army’s image as a compassionate and responsible institution, devoted not just to the security but also the well-being of citizens.
A senior army officer present at the event emphasized the Army’s commitment to welfare activities: “Our efforts are not limited to guarding the nation’s borders. We believe in ensuring that our citizens, especially those in remote regions, receive basic healthcare and feel the presence of a supportive administration. These medical patrols serve both preventive and curative purposes and help bridge the healthcare gap in these isolated areas.”
The local villagers expressed deep gratitude to the Army for their outreach. Many of them shared that they had to travel miles to get medical care, often at a high cost, and such camps greatly reduced that burden. Parents were particularly thankful for the pediatric consultations and availability of basic medicines for their children.
This medical patrol was part of the Indian Army’s ongoing civic action programs in Jammu and Kashmir under Operation Sadbhavana, which focuses on healthcare, education, infrastructure development, and women empowerment in remote and border areas.
The successful completion of the medical patrol at Gabbar and Kasheri once again showcases the Indian Army’s dual role – as guardians of the nation and as facilitators of social progress.
Such initiatives help build resilient communities, promote goodwill, and pave the way for a more inclusive and healthier society in India’s remotest corners.
