Poonch, may 12
Amidst rising tensions along the Line of Control, following recent incidents of cross-border firing in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army has stepped up its humanitarian efforts to assist affected civilians. The latest initiative saw the Indian Army distributing essential food supplies to over 500 individuals, many of whom were displaced from their homes in border villages and have since been relocated to safer areas in the hinterland, particularly in and around Surankote.
Responding swiftly to the emerging humanitarian situation, the Army deployed resources to ensure that the displaced families, already grappling with the trauma of displacement, did not suffer from lack of basic necessities. Food packets were distributed containing vital grocery items including rice, flour, lentils, cooking oil, sugar, tea, and other daily-use essentials. These supplies were aimed at meeting the immediate nutritional needs of the families and providing them some relief amid uncertainty. The food aid was personally delivered by Army personnel comprising officers, Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), and soldiers, who visited various temporary shelters and community housing clusters where the displaced populations have taken refuge. Their personal engagement with the people reflected a deep sense of responsibility, empathy, and solidarity with the civilians facing adversity.
The initiative was more than just a relief operation-it was an affirmation of the Indian Army’s enduring commitment to the well-being of the people in border regions. Over the years, the Army has played a dual role in these sensitive areas-ensuring the security of the nation while also acting as a pillar of support during humanitarian crises. This timely operation is a reminder of that dual responsibility being carried out with discipline and compassion.
Civilians residing in the temporary shelters expressed heartfelt gratitude for the Army’s help. Many said that the presence of the Army personnel gave them a sense of safety and reassurance during these troubling times. Several villagers also praised the Army for treating every family with dignity and patience while distributing the aid.
The local administration has also lauded the Army’s timely response. Coordination between military and civil agencies ensured that aid reached the most vulnerable families without delay. Army units deployed in the region have been closely monitoring the ground situation and are maintaining a constant line of communication with the local authorities to respond to any further developments or needs.
Officials confirmed that the Indian Army remains alert and prepared to extend further aid if the situation escalates. Preparations are underway to organize medical camps and provide psychological support to the affected, especially women and children who are more vulnerable in conflict situations.
In conclusion, the Indian Army’s humanitarian outreach in Poonch highlights the institution’s vital role beyond battlefield duties. Their compassion, rapid response, and dedication to civilian welfare have made a significant difference in the lives of hundreds of displaced people. As the region copes with external threats and internal displacement, the Indian Army continues to be a reliable force for security, stability, and humanitarian service.
