In the aftermath of a devastating cloudburst and heavy rainfall that triggered landslides and flooding along National Highway 44 in Ramban district, the Indian Army has launched swift and coordinated relief operations to assist stranded civilians. As part of Operation Sadbhavna, Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) from nearby Army units in Banihal, Maitra, Digdoul, and other strategic locations were immediately mobilized to respond to the unfolding humanitarian crisis.
These teams have been working tirelessly around the clock to provide critical humanitarian assistance, ensuring the safety, shelter, and well-being of affected residents, travellers, and commuters stuck along the highway. Despite adverse weather conditions and treacherous terrain, Army personnel displayed exemplary courage and efficiency in reaching even the most inaccessible locations.
In the severely impacted areas, soldiers distributed hot meals, clean drinking water, and essential supplies to those stranded due to the landslides. Temporary shelters were quickly set up to protect civilians from the harsh and unpredictable weather conditions. Recognizing the immediate medical needs of the affected population, Army medical teams established mobile first-aid units and provided urgent medical care to the injured and sick. Several civilians requiring more intensive medical attention were evacuated safely to healthcare facilities in nearby towns.
The Army’s proactive engagement with the civil administration, Jammu & Kashmir Police, and other disaster response teams has been instrumental in minimizing casualties and ensuring a coordinated relief effort. Their swift action helped restore a sense of calm among the local communities reeling under the sudden natural disaster.
Moreover, efforts are ongoing to clear major roadblocks caused by the landslides and to restore vital connectivity along NH-44, the key artery linking Jammu with Srinagar. Heavy machinery has been deployed, and engineering teams are working in tandem with civil agencies to expedite the reopening of the highway.
The Indian Army has once again reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the people of Jammu & Kashmir, demonstrating not just military readiness but deep humanitarian concern. Their role in disaster response operations underlines the Army’s dedication to standing with civilians during times of distress, disaster, and uncertainty.
