Dogra Degree College organized an insightful workshop on “Raising Capital and Managing Finance for Start-ups,” which drew participation from enthusiastic students and aspiring entrepreneurs. The workshop aimed to equip young minds with essential financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills.
The resource person for the event was Ms. Shiwani Sharma, Assistant Faculty at the Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Business Modelling (CIIBM), Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI). With over a decade of professional experience, Ms. Sharma has been instrumental in shaping the startup ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir. The event commenced with a formal welcome address by Ms. Monika Sharma, Assistant Professor at Dogra Degree College. She extended a warm greeting to the guest speaker, dignitaries, faculty members, and student participants. She underscored the relevance of such workshops in bridging the academic-industry gap and inspiring students to consider entrepreneurship as a viable career path. Dr. Bela Thakur, Director, Dogra Education Trust and Principal of Dogra Degree College, presented Ms. Sharma with a sapling and a memento as a token of appreciation and acknowledgement of her contribution to the event and the larger entrepreneurial community. During her presentation, Ms. Sharma delivered an in-depth session on the critical aspects of capital raising and financial planning for startups. She elaborated on JKEDI’s role in nurturing entrepreneurship, right from the ideation phase to business planning, funding, and pre-establishment support. The workshop offered detailed insights into pre-business setup analysis, helping participants understand how to assess the viability and potential of business ideas. She further emphasized the government’s role in promoting the startup culture through various schemes and financial support systems. The session also included a discussion on various beneficiary categories and their respective percentages, providing a clearer picture of resource allocation and government backing. Mr. Rakesh Mohan Koul, Head of B.Com and BBA Departments, and Mr. Balwant Singh Parihar, Head of the BA Department, were also present, along with other faculty members, adding to the academic value and significance of the event.Ms. Amarpreet Kaur and Mr. Ashish Thakur, both Lecturers at Dogra Degree College, efficiently coordinated the event. Ms.Amarpreet Kaur also delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the guest speaker, participants, and faculty members who contributed to its success.
