Taranjit Singh Tony, senior Congress leader and DDC Member from Suchetgarh, has expressed profound grief over the tragic loss of lives and destruction caused by the recent cloudburst and flash floods in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Calling the incident heartbreaking, Tony said, “The deaths and damage caused by this cloudburst are a grave tragedy. My heartfelt condolences go out to the affected families who have suffered unimaginable losses.”
Tony urged the J&K Government, particularly the National Conference-led administration, to ensure that relief and compensation are provided swiftly and adequately to all those impacted. “Delays in relief operations only deepen the suffering. The government must respond with urgency and compassion,” he said.
In a sharp statement, Tony also condemned the sudden and steep hike in airfares following the disruption of road connectivity due to the calamity. “It is shameful that certain airlines are exploiting a natural disaster to fleece their own countrymen. This is profiteering at the cost of public suffering,” he remarked.
He appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take strict regulatory action against such airlines, “who are shamelessly overcharging passengers in their hour of need.” Tony demanded that such practices be punished sternly and airlines indulging in such profiteering should face a ban.
Furthermore, the senior Congress leader called on the Central Government to prioritize the construction of climate-resilient infrastructure, especially roads in hilly regions of Jammu and Kashmir. “Future road projects must be designed and built to withstand natural disasters like cloudbursts. We cannot allow the same tragedies to repeat year after year,” he emphasized.
Tony reiterated his party’s commitment to standing by the people of Ramban and raising their voice at every level to ensure justice, relief, and long-term protection.
