In a remarkable initiative aimed at promoting sportsmanship, unity, and community development, the Indian Army, in collaboration with the Sunderbani Cricket Association, successfully organized the Sunderbani Premier League (SPL) – a month-long cricket tournament held from 16 March to 14 April 2025 in Sunderbani, Rajouri district.
The event brought together youth from various corners of the region, infusing the air with the spirit of competition, camaraderie, and athletic enthusiasm. A total of 14 teams participated in the tournament, making it a grand celebration of sports and togetherness. The final match, played this Monday, witnessed an intense face-off between BPS Blasters and Knight Riders, where the Blasters triumphed and lifted the winner’s trophy.
The Indian Army felicitated the winners and congratulated all participating teams for their sportsman spirit. The winning team was awarded a cash prize of ?1,00,000, while the runners-up received ?50,000, along with their respective trophies. The Army emphasized how such tournaments play a vital role in character building, personal development, and promoting a positive lifestyle among the youth.
This edition of the Sunderbani Premier League wasn’t merely a cricket competition – it emerged as a symbol of unity, empowerment, and transformation. It provided young players an opportunity to showcase their talent, while also reinforcing the importance of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance.
By supporting and organizing events like SPL, the Indian Army continues its efforts in strengthening the bond between the armed forces and local communities. The tournament also served as a powerful medium to steer the youth towards constructive engagement, away from negative influences. As the tournament concluded, the Indian Army expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Sunderbani Cricket Association, the players, and the local community for their enthusiastic support and cooperation.
