The vibrant festival of Baisakhi was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm by the Indian Army at Sangiot, Poonch, bringing together local communities in a spirit of unity and festivity. The event was marked by traditional customs, heartfelt interactions, and a deep sense of togetherness.
To make the occasion special, the Indian Army invited ward and village heads, along with other prominent individuals from the surrounding villages of Dhanna, Khetan, Bhata Dhurian, Chandrasi, and Kallar Mohra, to join the celebrations. Their presence added significance to the event and strengthened the bond between the Army and the local populace.
The festivities began with prayers at the Gurudwara located within the Sangiot camp, where participants offered their respects and prayed for peace, prosperity, and well-being. This was followed by a traditional Langar – a free community meal served in Sikh tradition – which saw enthusiastic participation from the villagers and Army personnel alike.
The Langar was more than just a meal; it was a celebration of equality, service, and community bonding. Members of the local villages actively contributed to the preparation and serving of the meal, reflecting the core Baisakhi values of selfless service and unity. The joyous atmosphere was further enriched by informal interactions between the Indian Army and villagers, where stories, laughter, and festive wishes were shared freely.
Such events highlight the Army’s continued efforts in not only ensuring the region’s security but also nurturing mutual trust and cultural integration with the local population. The attendees expressed their deep gratitude to the Indian Army for organizing the event, providing a warm and festive environment, and honoring local traditions with such respect.
Before returning to their villages, the guests extended their Baisakhi greetings to the soldiers and thanked them for their generous hospitality and efforts in bringing the community together.
The celebration at Sangiot stands as a beautiful example of how festivals can become a bridge between the armed forces and civilians – promoting harmony, understanding, and a shared cultural spirit in the region.
