Anurag Bajpayee, the CEO of clean water startup, Gradiant, was arrested in ealry 2024 in a luxury brothel scandal in the US. The Indian-origin man is accused of paying for sex services at top-end brothels earlier this year.
Bajpayee is allegedly among more than 30 doctors, lawyers and government officials named in court documents in connection with the sex scandal. These high-end clients allegedly paid $600 hourly rates for the services. The women, who were mostly Asian, are reportedly were sex-trafficked.
Will Anurag Bajpayee resign?
Anurag Bajpayee was a reputed personality in water treatment technology, make it to the list of Scientific American’s annual Top 10 World Changing Ideas. However, some Gradiant employees have now called for the resgination of Bajpayee from the post of CEO. However, the company has issued a statement, saying it has confidence in the justice system. “We… are confident that this will resolve favorably in due course,” it said.
Bajpayee, who was born in India, did his stuidfrom Lucknow’s La Martiniere College. Later, he earned his masters and PhD, both in mechanical engineering, from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2008 and 2012 respectively.
His company, Gradiant, was an MIT spinout and it currently has a market valuation of more than $1 billion.
Gradiant has come up with solutions for semiconductors, pharmaceuticals and other industries. It operated in over 25 countries and runs more than 2,500 facilities.
Others named in the brothel scandal include Cambridge City Councilor Paul Toner. They all allegedly frequented a brothel racket that was run from six luxury apartments in Washington DC as well as Cambridge and Watertown in Massachusetts.
