JKPCC hosts public hearing for proposed Steel Manufacturing Unit at SICOP-Sahar Logate

The Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee (JKPCC) today conducted a public hearing for the proposed steel manufacturing project by M/s German Steel Works here at SICOP Industrial Estate-Sahar Logate . The proposed industrial unit is designed to manufacture steel billets, ingots, and TMT bars ranging in size from 8 mm to 32 mm. As part of its infrastructure, the project includes the installation of two induction furnaces (2×25 TPH), a continuous casting machine (CCM), and a steel rolling mill with a production capacity of 30 TPH.
The hearing was held at Sahar Logate and was supervised by officials from the JKPCC, the office of Deputy Commissioner Kathua, and the Divisional Officer PCC Kathua. Local residents and stakeholders actively participated in the proceedings, expressing their views and concerns about the project. The entire session was videographed and recorded in compliance with regulatory requirements. The documentation will be submitted to the Jammu & Kashmir Environmental Impact Assessment Authority (JKEIAA) for further processing of the Environmental Clearance. During the hearing, the project consultant presented a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report, detailing findings from environmental monitoring and analysis carried out in accordance with prescribed norms.
Pertinently, this public hearing is a key statutory requirement under the Environmental Impact Assessment Notification 2006, issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Government of India. It ensures transparency and community participation in the environmental clearance process for industrial projects. ?
