Shashank Misra, Joint Secretary Distribution, Ministry of Power (MoP) and Shri Rahul Dwivedi, visited Jammu to review the functioning of the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) and assess the progress of works under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
During the meeting, Managing Director JPDCL, Sh. Yasin M. Choudhary, provided a detailed briefing on the achievements, challenges, and implementation status of RDSS. Representatives from NTPC, PESL, RECPDCL, and other key stakeholders also participated, sharing insights on work prioritization and the need for re-evaluating on-ground conditions that have contributed to increased execution costs. The Joint Secretary acknowledged JPDCL’s commitment and proactive approach in tackling project challenges while ensuring steady progress. It was noted that despite facing hurdles, JPDCL has remained focused on optimizing resources and prioritizing high-loss areas to maximize RDSS benefits.
The Joint Secretary commended JPDCL’s emphasis on efficiency-enhancing measures, such as feeder segregation and adjustments in pole quantities for reconductoring works, which are expected to significantly reduce technical losses and improve system reliability.
Additionally, concerns were raised regarding the slow progress of smart metering.M/s Genus, the implementing agency. The Joint Secretary directed RECPDCL to take immediate corrective measures and enhance monitoring to ensure the timely completion of smart metering targets.
The meeting also reviewed the status of loss reduction works, pending payments to Turnkey Contractors (TKCs), and compliance with pre-qualification requirements. The Joint Secretary lauded JPDCL’s continuous efforts in executing RDSS initiatives and urged all stakeholders to further accelerate implementation to achieve the scheme’s objectives.
