The Stand With Humanity Foundation today organized a press conference to express its deep appreciation for Hon’ble Chief Minister Jenab Omar Abdullah’s pro-people welfare initiatives. The foundation lauded his landmark decisions, particularly his move to provide free travel for citizens in government buses across Jammu and Kashmir and the waiver of stamp duty on immovable property for women availing property from full-blood relatives. These initiatives, they stated, are steps towards ensuring social justice, economic empowerment, and gender equity in the region.
Addressing the media, Foundation Chairperson Manik Uppal acknowledged the positive impact of these decisions on the lives of the people. He stated that the free travel scheme has greatly benefited students, senior citizens, and the underprivileged, making transportation more accessible and reducing the financial burden on economically weaker sections. The stamp duty waiver for women, he added, is a historic move towards strengthening women’s financial independence and encouraging property ownership among them. During the press conference, Manik Uppal strongly advocated for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, emphasizing that self-governance is essential for the welfare and progress of the region. He argued that statehood would provide the local administration with greater autonomy to address region-specific challenges, ensure better governance, and effectively implement developmental policies tailored to the needs of the people. He stressed that Jammu and Kashmir’s unique identity and aspirations can be better safeguarded under a state government, which can independently make decisions in the best interest of its citizens.
A significant focus of the discussion was also placed on the plight of daily wagers and contractual workers in the region. The foundation urged the government to take immediate steps to address their long-pending grievances, including the demand for regularization of jobs, timely payment of wages, and improved working conditions.
These workers, who play a crucial role in various government departments, have faced prolonged uncertainty and financial hardships due to the lack of job security. The foundation called upon the administration to prioritize their concerns and ensure a dignified livelihood for them.
The event was attended by several prominent members of the foundation, including Akhil Kapoor (President of the Foundation), Romesh Chander (Patron), and Angad Singh (Director), who echoed the sentiments expressed by the chairperson. They emphasized the importance of continued efforts in raising public awareness about key issues affecting the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Chairperson Manik Uppal concluded the press meet by extending his heartfelt appreciation to the media, acknowledging their crucial role in highlighting important social and governance issues. He urged journalists and media houses to continue their efforts in bringing attention to matters that directly impact the lives of the people, thereby ensuring transparency and accountability in governance.
The Stand With Humanity Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the rights and welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. They vowed to continue their efforts in pushing for policies that promote social equity, economic stability, and political empowerment in the region.
