In a significant development, a delegation from Movement Kalki met with Doda MLA Mehraj Malik, urging him to take a strong stance in favor of stricter laws for the protection of cows in Jammu and Kashmir. The delegation, led by Rajkumar Lalotra, submitted a memorandum highlighting the urgent need to completely curb cow smuggling and enforce stringent legal measures to safeguard cattle.
The delegation comprised prominent members of Movement Kalki, including founder member Deepak Singh, Legal Advisory Board member Advocate Someshwar Kohli, and board members Pawan Sharma, Sapna Hindu, Sunita Kundal, Dr. Sudesh Kumar, and Sukhdev Singh. These representatives articulated their concerns regarding the increasing incidents of cow smuggling, which they believe threaten social harmony and religious sentiments.
During the meeting, the Movement Kalki delegation stressed that their initiative was not directed against any particular community but was instead a call for unity and the preservation of cultural and religious traditions. They emphasized that the illegal smuggling and slaughter of cows should be dealt with firmly to ensure peace and communal harmony in the region.
MLA Mehraj Malik attentively listened to the delegation’s concerns and acknowledged the gravity of the issue. He assured them that despite the limited time available in the legislative assembly, he would make every effort to raise the matter and push for necessary reforms. Furthermore, he pointed out that tackling cow smuggling and slaughter required nationwide efforts and should ideally begin in states like Uttar Pradesh, which reportedly houses the highest number of slaughterhouses. Malik reassured the delegation that even if he was unable to address the matter in the assembly, he would continue to advocate for the cause through other platforms and discussions.
Movement Kalki has been at the forefront of the agitation demanding the official recognition of Gau Mata (Mother Cow) as ‘Rashtra Mata’ (National Mother). Their movement has now entered its 164th day, demonstrating the unwavering commitment of its members toward their goal. The organization has vowed to persist with its efforts until the government enacts strict and effective laws to protect cows from smuggling and slaughter.
The meeting with MLA Mehraj Malik is seen as a crucial step in Movement Kalki’s ongoing struggle, as they continue to garner political support for their cause. The delegation expressed optimism that their concerns would be addressed and that legislative action would be taken in the near future. As their movement continues, they remain steadfast in their demand for policy reforms that will ensure the protection and respect of cows across the region.
