Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta, has extended his full support to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, recently approved by the Union Cabinet for introduction in the Parliament. He emphasized that the bill is a significant step toward ensuring transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the administration of Waqf properties across India. The legislation aims to optimize the utilization of these assets for charitable and religious purposes while safeguarding them from any misuse or encroachment.
In a press statement issued here today, Kavinder Gupta categorically stated that the proposed amendments do not target any specific community. Instead, the bill seeks to establish a robust mechanism to streamline the management of Waqf properties, which number over 8.7 lakh and span approximately 9.4 lakh acres nationwide. He stressed that the government’s intent is to enhance governance structures, promote inclusivity, and strengthen the protection of these properties so that they continue to serve their intended purpose effectively.
“The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, reflects the Modi government’s unwavering commitment to fostering transparency, inclusivity, and effective management in the administration of Waqf properties. By introducing structured reforms, streamlining administrative processes, and ensuring diverse representation, the government aims to protect these invaluable assets and utilize them for the welfare of all communities,” Kavinder asserted.
Highlighting the necessity of these amendments, the former Deputy CM pointed out that the existing system governing Waqf properties has long been marred by inefficiencies, lack of transparency, and allegations of mismanagement. The proposed amendments will address these concerns, ensuring that Waqf assets are managed more professionally and utilized for the benefit of society at large. He emphasized that the bill will also introduce measures to curb unauthorized occupation and illegal transactions, which have been a persistent challenge.
Kavinder appealed to all stakeholders, including members of the opposition, to extend their support to the bill in Parliament. He underlined that the amendments are being introduced in the larger national interest and are crucial for ensuring that Waqf properties fulfill their intended role in societal development. He reiterated that the government’s approach remains impartial and focused on fair governance, urging the opposition not to politicize the matter but instead contribute constructively to the legislative process.
“This bill is not about targeting any particular section of society; rather, it is about bringing much-needed reforms to a crucial sector that impacts the welfare of many. The government remains committed to ensuring that Waqf properties are managed in a manner that upholds their sanctity while benefiting the rightful beneficiaries,” he added.
The senior BJP leader also highlighted the broader vision of the Modi government, which focuses on comprehensive reforms in various sectors to ensure good governance and national progress.
He assured that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, is a step in the right direction toward achieving these objectives and called upon all sections of society to support its passage and implementation for the greater good of the nation.
