Jammu, Mar 6
The Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS) has expressed deep anger and outrage in response to the derogatory remarks made by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary of the National Conference Government in Jammu and Kashmir. The organization has demanded an immediate apology from Choudhary, threatening serious consequences if their demand is not met without delay. A press conference was held near the Maharaja Hari Singh Ji Statue at Bikram Chowk, Tawi Bridge, where YRS members, under the direction of Chairman Raghuvir Singh and President Vikram Singh Vicky, expressed their strong condemnation of Choudhary’s comments. The gathering included former President Rajan Singh Happy, Senior Vice President Mukesh Singh, Mandeep Singh, Vishal Singh Rakwal, Rajeev Jamwal, Sanjay Singh, Vicky Singh, Chotu Singh, and other prominent members of YRS.
Raghuvir Singh, addressing the media, said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the Dogra community, hold Maharaja Hari Singh Ji in high regard. Any statements that insult his legacy are not acceptable. He emphasized that Choudhary’s remarks are an attack on the emotional sentiments of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, causing great harm to those who revere Maharaja Hari Singh Ji. Vikram Singh Vicky added that while the National Conference Government claims to defend Article 370, 35A, and Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood—rights which, according to them, were established by Maharaja Hari Singh—Choudhary’s reference to the Maharaja’s rule as “dictatorship” is completely contradictory.
Vikram declared that Maharaja Hari Singh Ji is a symbol of pride for the people of Jammu and vowed that the community would not tolerate such disrespectful statements.
Rajan Singh further speculated that the remarks were born out of frustration among Kashmir-based leaders after the declaration of holidays to honor Maharaja Hari Singh Ji’s birth anniversary on 23rd September and the Accession Day on 26th October. He also pointed to the cancellation of holidays like 13th July and 5th December (in honor of Sheikh Abdullah) as a source of resentment, leading to the offensive comments.
The YRS has made it clear that if the National Conference does not take action against Surinder Choudhary, or if he fails to issue an apology for his remarks immediately, they will take to the streets. YRS, along with the Dogra community, has announced plans for a massive protest on Friday, 7th March, at the Maharaja Hari Singh Ji Statue near Bikram Chowk Bridge, calling for justice and respect for the community’s sentiments.
