JKAACL organizes Musical Program ‘Lal Wakh’ to celebrate Lal Ded’s Legacy

The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) today organized a mesmerizing musical program titled Lal Wakh at K.L. Saigal Hall, Jammu.
The event was dedicated to the revered Kashmiri mystic poetess Lal Ded, also known as Lalleshwari, whose spiritual poetry continues to inspire generations.
Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner Dr. Arvind Karwani graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Secretary, JKAACL, Harvinder Kour was the Guest of Honour.
In his address, Dr. Arvind Karwani highlighted the profound influence of Lal Ded’s poetry in shaping Kashmiri culture and spirituality. He emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting her rich literary heritage through such cultural events. He also appreciated the efforts of the artists and musicians who contributed to making the evening a soulful tribute to the great saint-poetess.
Additional Secretary JKAACL Sanjeev Rana in his welcome address, said that the program aimed to revive and celebrate the timeless Vakhs (verses) of Lal Ded, which carry deep spiritual and philosophical significance. He acknowledged that the event was conceived and designed under the guidance of Secretary, JKAACL.
The program commenced with the melodious recitation of Lal Wakh by the renowned vocalist Dr.Deepali Watal, who captivated the audience with her soulful rendition. She was followed by another celebrated singer from Jammu and Kashmir, Naina Saproo, whose mesmerizing voice evoked the essence of Lal Ded’s mysticism. Two young budding artists, Shivani and Sharat, also enthralled the audience with their sweet and melodious voices.
The singers were ably accompanied by talented musicians, including Rahul Sharma on Santoor, Amit Anand on Tabla, Amit Sharma on Rabab, Chandan on Synthesizer and Dr. Ramesh Nirash on Harmonium. Their musical expertise added depth and emotion to the recitals, making the event an unforgettable experience for all attendees.
The event was skillfully conducted by the esteemed writer Vijay Walli, who provided insightful narration and kept the audience engaged throughout the program.
Lal Ded, also known as Lalleshwari, was a 14th-century Kashmiri mystic and poetess whose verses embody themes of self-realization, devotion, and universal truth. Her poetry, known as Lal Vakhs, transcends religious and social barriers, making her a revered figure among Hindus and Muslims alike. Her teachings emphasize inner spirituality, shedding societal constraints, and realizing the divine within.
The program successfully paid homage to Lal Ded’s timeless wisdom and literary contributions, leaving the audience deeply moved and inspired. JKAACL reiterated its commitment to preserving and promoting the rich cultural and literary heritage of Jammu and Kashmir through such initiatives.
