As the Trump administration continued on its spree to deport illegal immigrants, nearly 300 deportees of various nationalities are being sent to Panama as part of a deal with the Central American country.
Speaking to reporters Panama’s President Jose Raul Mulino stated that the US will send around 360 deportees to Panama, of which around 120 have already been sent.
The first flight carrying 119 people from Afghanistan, China, India, Iran, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Vietnam arrived in Panama on Wednesday.
However, from Panama, around one-third of these deportees have been sent to a camp in the Darien province. As per an AP report, the deportees sent to this camp refused to be repatriated to their home countries and will be here until a third country is ready to accept the deportees.
‘Help Us’ Signs Spotted
The remaining deportees are being held at the luxury Decápolis Hotel in Panama City. After the deportees landed in the Central American nation, two girls holding a piece of paper to the window which read “Please Help Us”.
As per a BBC report, a group of adults and three children were spotted raising their arms with their thumbs in their palms – the international symbol for those needing assistance – with “Help us” written in red letters on the glass.
