Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan on Monday chaired a meeting regarding preservation of Panjal Trap Geological heritage site at Aharbal.
The meeting was attended by ACR, SDM D.H, Director (Geology), Tehsildar DH Pora, Senior Geologists from Geological Survey of India (GSI), Srinagar.
Director GSI appraised the chair regarding the activities of GSI and its role in identifying the Geoheritage and Geotourism sites.
It is pertinent to mention that the GSI has declared the Panjal Trap-A volcanic rock formed 280-255 million years ago, as an important Geological landform.
The Panjal Trap, Aharbal hosts multiple volcanoes and scenic landscape of waterfall and balanced rocks. On the occasion, DC directed the concerned revenue officer to select a suitable site for the installation of Geoheritage sign board developed by GSI.
