PULWAMA, Feb 17
An IEC awareness camp under Swachh Bharat Mission, Grameen Phase 2 (SBM-G II) was successfully organised today at the Meeting Hall, RDD Complex, Pulwama.
The event was chaired by Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Pulwama and Assistant Commissioner Panchayat (ACP) Pulwama and focused on strengthening waste management strategies and ensuring the sustainability of sanitation initiatives across the district.
The programme covered key aspects of Solid Waste Management (SWM), including the operation and maintenance of SBM(G) assets, door-to-door (D2D) waste collection and scientific disposal methods. Officials deliberated on the challenges in waste management and explored strategies for effective implementation to enhance sanitation coverage in rural areas.
A major highlight of the programme was the selection of five lanchayats from each block as pilot panchayats to establish a sustainable Solid Waste Management system in the district. This initiative aims to serve as a model for efficient waste collection and disposal, setting the groundwork for a cleaner and healthier Pulwama.
Speaking on the occasion, the Assistant Commissioner Development Pulwama underscored the importance of community participation in ensuring the success of SBM-G II, urging all stakeholders to actively contribute to waste segregation, recycling and environmental conservation.
The Assistant Commissioner Panchayat Pulwama issued a directive instructing all concerned authorities to initiate SBM-related activities immediately, with a particular focus on door-to-door waste collection across the district.
The IEC Awareness Camp concluded with the commitment to rural sanitation and sustainable waste management, marking a significant step toward achieving the goals of Swachh Bharat Mission – Grameen Phase 2 in Pulwama.
