Calls for tough action to address rising criminal activities

Jammu, Jan 22
Taranjit Singh Tony, General Secretary of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee and DDC Suchetgarh, strongly condemned the recent broad daylight murder at the bustling Jewel Chowk, highlighting the alarming rise in criminal activities within the core of Jammu city. He emphasized the urgent need for the authorities to address the deteriorating law and order situation.
In a statement issued here today, Tony said, “The murder at Jewel Chowk is a stark reminder of the rampant lawlessness taking hold of our city. Criminals are operating with impunity, and even those involved in heinous crimes, like the murder of Avtar Singh at Greater Kailash, continue to walk free. The police have failed to arrest the remaining culprits, and this lack of accountability is only emboldening the criminals.”
He further pointed out the worsening gang warfare situation in the region, which had earlier escalated into violence, and questioned the role of the police. “The police seem to be turning a blind eye to criminal activities, and in some instances, they appear to be in cahoots with land grabbers. A glaring example of this is the murder of Avtar Singh, where big wigs are involved, and yet no action has been taken by the authorities.”
Tony stressed that the current law enforcement situation cannot continue. “It is essential for the authorities to take stern and swift action against the criminal elements that are wreaking havoc in our society. The people of Jammu deserve to live in a safe environment, where the law is upheld and criminals are brought to justice,” he said.
He appealed directly to the Union Home Minister and the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, urging them to intervene and take decisive steps to address the increasing crime rate. “I urge the Union Home Minister and LG Sinha to look into this matter seriously and take immediate action. A strong message must be sent to the goon elements that they cannot take the law into their hands without facing consequences,” Tony added.
