Newly elected JKHCBAJ team meets CM Omar, Presents charter of demands

The newly elected team of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Jammu (JKHCBAJ), led by President Advocate K. Nirmal Kotwal, called upon the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir today. The delegation, comprising Vice-President Advocate Baldev Singh, General Secretary Advocate Pardeep Majotra, Joint Secretary Advocate Anshu Mahajan, and Treasurer Advocate Rahul Aggarwal, congratulated the Chief Minister on his resounding electoral mandate and expressed gratitude for his ongoing support to the legal fraternity. The Bar Association highlighted its appreciation for the government’s efforts to address the needs of the legal community, recognizing their vital role in upholding justice across the region.
During the meeting, the JKHCBAJ presented a detailed memorandum of demands aimed at improving infrastructure, facilities, and welfare for lawyers and litigants. Key demands are Restoration of charges on Vakalatnama for the welfare of members, Reinstating the powers of Registrars/Sub-Registrars to judicial officers, Construction of a multi-storey building to house tribunals, commissions, and related offices within court premises, Establishment of medical dispensaries in district court complexes across Jammu Province, Expansion and modernization of infrastructure, including additional lawyers’ chambers, multi-storey parking, and a digital library.
The Association also requested enhanced security for advocates and litigants, a crèche facility, and financial protections, including insurance and stipends for young lawyers. Furthermore, they emphasized the need for land allocation to develop an Advocates’ Residential Colony and amendments in laws to allow competent advocates to be appointed as presiding officers of tribunals and commissions.
Chief Minister assured the delegation of his administration’s commitment to examining and addressing their demands at the earliest.
