An awareness programme regarding Road Safety was conducted today in the premises of Government Degree College (GDC) Basohli as part of the road safety month being observed across the nation as well as in J&K.
The students along staff members participated in the programme. SSP Traffic Rural Jammu Girdhari Lal Sharma interacted with students and educated them about road safety measures being taken by different government departments including traffic police, motor vehicles department executive police & other stakeholders.
The programme was conducted in collaboration with the motor vehicle department. ARTO Shami Kumar Sharma- along with his team, Sukhdev Singh, Dy. SP Traffic Samba-Kathua also attended the event organized under the guidance of College Principal Dr. (Prof) Ravinder Kour.
During the interaction, facts & figures regarding the number of accidents and deaths in J&K as well as in India were shared with the students to highlight the gravity of the situation and importance of the road safety measures to be taken by the stakeholders and the civil society.
Considering the fact that students and teachers are an important part of the society and can act as ambassadors for road safety measures to prevent the accidents and loss of precious human lives.
The students were also suggested to involve their parents, family members and social circle in propagating road safety measures.
The students noted that over speeding, overloading, overtaking, driving the unfit vehicles and rash driving by the minors are other major causes which lead to the accidents.
