Health Department conducts Hepatitis, AIDS Screening Camp at District Jail Bhaderwah

District Health Society Doda on Tuesday organized a special Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and AIDS (HIV) screening camp for inmates here at District Jail Bhaderwah. The camp, organized on the directives of the Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh, was conducted under the guidance of Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Om Kumar and in collaboration with District Jail Authorities Bhaderwah, Sub-District Hospital Bhaderwah, and Government Medical College (GMC) Doda.
The camp screened a total of 146 jail inmates for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV, with the assistance of a dedicated medical team from GMC Doda, including Dr. Kamaldeep Singh, Dr. Rahat Goni, Asia Beg (Pharmacist), Asha Devi, Halima Kousar (FMPHWs), Puneet Kotwal (Lab Technician, ICTC), Saima Zargar (Counsellor), and Mohammad Altaf (Lab Technician).
Superintendent District Jail Hamid Ullah Naik, alongside District Epidemiologist Umar Anayat, Dr. Hamid Parray (Medical Officer), Advocate Isha Hitaishi from DLSA Bhaderwah and Faizan A. Tramboo (Incharge Media Desk, Health Department) were also present. In addition to the screening, the health department team educated inmates on health, hygiene, and mental well-being.
Awareness was raised about preventive healthcare, healthy lifestyle practices, and addressing mental health challenges faced in confinement. Information about the ABHA initiative was also shared with the inmates to promote access to digital health records.

Superintendent Jail, Hamid Ullah Naik, expressed his gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner and CMO for the impactful initiative.
He emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the health and prison departments to improve the inmates’ quality of life. The camp concluded with a strong message of care, inclusivity, and the government’s commitment to equitable healthcare for all.
