A grand event was organised today at the Directorate of Horticulture Jammu to celebrate “Kissan Diwas.” The event, held under the chairmanship of Director Horticulture Jammu C. L Sharma, was graced by the presence of a large number of farmers from different parts of Jammu and Samba district.
Joint Director Horticulture Jammu Vikas Anand, Dy. Director Horticulture Salil Gupta and other officers/ officials were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the farmers, the Director Horticulture laid focus on the importance of “KISAN DIWAS”. He said that this day aims to promote awareness of the importance of farmers and their valuable contribution towards the overall social and economic development of the nation. He highlighted the achievements of the Horticulture sector through various developmental programmes aimed at doubling farmers’ income.
The Director briefed the farmers about the flagship scheme “Holistic Agriculture Development Programme”.
He impressed upon farmers to take benefits of different projects of HADP viz Farm mechanization & Automation, Production of designer plants for promotion of High Density Plants and Rejuvenation of Orchards, Development of rainfed areas, etc.
Later, the Director presented Certificates of Appreciation to progressive farmers for their remarkable achievements in the field of Horticulture.
The Department of Horticulture Jammu has started a campaign, with Cycle Man of India Neeraj Prajapati as its ambassador, to promote departmental schemes especially HADP & MIDH among the farming community. He further stated, “This campaign is a step towards reaching the grassroots level, enabling farmers to harness the full potential of these schemes, and ensuring sustainable agricultural development in the region.”Neeraj Prajapati was was also honoured on the occasion by handing over Certificate of Appreciation for travelling on Bicycle in Jammu Province covering distance of more than 1100 km in first phase.
The proceedings of the programme were carried out by Horticulture Development Officer Dr. Nazran Khan.
