Senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony, today extended his strong support to AICC leader Rahul Gandhi’s call for a caste-based census, emphasizing its critical importance in addressing the economic and social inequities faced by marginalized communities.
In a statement issued here today, the senior Congress leader lauded Rahul Gandhi’s commitment to advocating for justice for Dalits, OBCs, and Adivasis. “Rahul Ji has rightly pointed out that the true meaning of a caste census is justice. It will unveil the economic and social realities of underprivileged communities, ensuring they receive their fair share of resources and opportunities,” Tony said.
Highlighting the role of a caste-based census in creating an equitable society, Tony added, “This exercise will provide precise data on economic disparities among various communities, enabling targeted policymaking and resource allocation. Without understanding the economic conditions of the marginalized, achieving true social justice is impossible.” Tony also supported Rahul Gandhi’s call to “break the wall of 50 percent” reservation, asserting that addressing both economic and social backwardness requires revisiting the existing cap. “The reservation framework must reflect the evolving economic challenges of society, ensuring that no section is left behind,” he remarked.
Urging the government to prioritize the implementation of a caste-based census, Tony said, “This is not about politics; it is about recognizing economic and social injustices and addressing them effectively. Let us unite to ensure justice and equity for every citizen of this nation.”
