DDC Kupwara launches fortnightly ‘Jal Utsav’ campaign

Campaign aimed at generating awareness about significance of water

The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan today launched ‘Jal Utsav’ under the title Jal Jeevan Mission- Har Ghar Nal Se Jal in a function organized here in the meeting hall of D.C Office Complex.
Director ADP NITI Ayog, Dr. Priscilla C Ngaihte, CPO, Executive Engineers of PHE Department, AEEs, employees and other concerned were present on the occasion.
Addressing the function, the DDC congratulated the PHE department for conducting the Jal Utsav which is meant to generate awareness to create sensitivity and significance about the water. She impressed upon the officers to conduct mass awareness at grassroots level for preservation of the water which is an important natural resource for the sustainability of life.
It was informed that the ‘Jal Utsav’ is a fortnight programme starting today on 6th November which is meant to cultivate awareness among the people about the significance of water and encourage active participation of the local communities in preserving and protecting the water resources. Besides, it aims to create a lasting impact by instilling a sense of responsibility and ownership among the community, ensuring Jal Utsav’s objectives are sustained over time.
On the occasion, the Executive Engineer PHE briefed the meeting about the progress made by the department under Jal Jeevan Mission (DJJM) in district Kupwara. He informed that 128150 households have been connected through FHTC so far by the department. He also informed about the approval of DPRs, status of Approved Water Supply Schemes, Dug well works, Bore well works, Rapid Sand Filtration Plants, OHTs and Pipe networks.
Later, the Director ADP, Priscilla C Ngaihte in her concluding remarks appreciated the efforts of the District Development Commissioner and the concerned department for the achievements made in the district under JJM.
She praised Jammu and Kashmir for having a rich natural resource base especially water and put emphasis upon the need for conservation and preservation of these resources. She also enquired the officers about the strengths and challenges being faced in implementation of the JJM in ground
