jammu, Nov 4
Senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony voiced his strong disapproval of the ongoing “dual control” over Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that the people will not settle for anything less than full statehood.
He stated that this half-hearted approach undermines the autonomy and welfare of J&K’s residents, creating discontent and a decline in the region’s stability.
In a statement issued here today, the senior Congress leader highlighted recent incidents of surge in terror attacks and law-and-order issues, attributing them to the inadequate governance model imposed on J&K. “The time has come to restore full-fledged statehood,” he urged, emphasizing that the region’s dual administration has exacerbated these challenges, with law enforcement under the BJP-led Central Government failing to provide a sense of security.
Tony reminded the public of promises made by key national leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Parliament and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who declared on August 15 from the Red Fort that full-fledged Statehood would be reinstated. He pressed the Government at the Centre to honor its commitments.
Tony called on the people of J&K to prepare themselves for an another struggle for statehood. He said that certain portfolios of J&K are under Centre’s control which seems to be an affront to the mandate of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He appealed to all political parties across the nation to join hands in the fight for J&K’s rightful statehood and self-governance, urging a united front to ensure the restoration of the region’s dignity.
