JAMMU: Dogra Higher Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, Jammu, celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with great enthusiasm and reverence on 30th September 2024, honoring the life and legacy of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
The event was marked by a series of meaningful activities and performances, involving the participation of students and staff alike.
The program commenced with a special assembly, where the atmosphere was filled with patriotic spirit and respect for Gandhiji’s contributions to the nation. The event was initiated with a welcome address by Suhani Ma’am, who set the tone for the day’s proceedings.
Kunwar Gambhir Dev Singh Charak Ji, the Worthy Managing Director, graced the occasion with his inspiring words, reflecting on the importance of Gandhian values in today’s world.
The Vice Principal, Mrs. Gagandeep Bedi, delivered an insightful speech, sharing Gandhiji’s teachings and principles, emphasizing the relevance of non-violence, truth, and self-reliance in contemporary society.
The sequence of events was commanded by Virat, and began with the recitation of the Gayatri Mantra, followed by a soulful Saraswati Vandana. The audience then offered Pushpanjali (floral tributes) to Mahatma Gandhi, as a mark of respect.
A unique highlight of the event was the entry of Gandhi Ji with his followers, during which the anchors narrated the contributions of each of his key companions in the Indian freedom struggle. This was followed by the melodious rendition of “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram” by the school choir, evoking a sense of peace and devotion.
Students also engaged in storytelling sessions about significant movements led by Mahatma Gandhi, particularly focusing on the Salt March and the Non-Cooperation Movement.
A moving speech on the life and philosophy of Gandhi Ji was delivered by Mehtaab Singh of class 7th, capturing the essence of his ideals. The program further featured a spirited group song, “Bande Mein Tha Dum Vande Mataram,” which energized the audience and filled the air with patriotic fervor. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Ritu Ma’am, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to making the celebration a success, followed by the singing of the National Anthem.
In keeping with Gandhi Ji’s vision of cleanliness, the school participated in a Swachh Bharat mission, engaging in a sweeping drive to promote cleanliness and hygiene, echoing his belief that “cleanliness is next to godliness.”
