JAMMU, Sept 13
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the residence of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dhananjay Chandrachud on Wednesday, where he performed a Gauri-Ganesh pooja during Ganeshotsav, has sparked criticism from the opposition. In response, the Dogra Front and Shiv Sena, led by their president Ashok Gupta, held a rally in Jammu city, condemning the opposition for what they called “pseudo-secularism” and opposing the Prime Minister’s religious act. Gupta strongly criticized opposition leaders for allegedly attacking Hindu sentiments and traditions, particularly Ganesh Utsav, which is widely celebrated across India.
Gupta emphasized that Ganesh Utsav is an integral part of Indian culture, with some families celebrating it for over a century. The festival symbolizes the removal of obstacles and the bringing of happiness (sukh). He further accused the opposition of engaging in appeasement politics and displaying hatred toward Hindu customs.
Highlighting the significance of the PM’s visit, Gupta pointed out that CJI Chandrachud hails from Maharashtra, where the celebration of Ganeshotsav is deeply rooted. Every year, the CJI brings Lord Ganesha’s idol from a Maharashtrian household. Gupta expressed disbelief at the opposition’s uproar over the event, especially when past Prime Ministers hosted Iftar parties attended by high constitutional authorities, including the CJI.
Concluding his statement, Gupta remarked that India is a “bouquet of religions” where celebrating each other’s festivals is a hallmark of democracy. He urged people to see the beauty in this diversity, while criticizing the opposition’s stance on the matter.
Party members, including Raju, Ashish, Bantu, Ganesh, Vikky, Prem, Naresh, and Abhishek, among others, participated in the rally.
