Three-Day numismatic Exhibition Inaugurated at Kala Kendra

A three-day numismatic exhibition showcasing rare and commemorative coins, curated by private collector JawaharJyoti, was inaugurated today at the Master Sansar Chand Gallery of Kala Kendra by Harvindeer Kour, Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL), in the presence of a large gathering of artists, writers, and heritage conservators.
The exhibition, organized by the Kala Kendra Society Jammu under the Department of Culture, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, presents a unique collection of 1,250 rare coins from various historical periods, offering an exceptional educational opportunity for researchers and students from various institutions to delve into centuries-old currency.
Welcoming the guests, Dr. Javaid Rahi , Secretary Kala Kendra Society highlighted exhibition’s importance, stating that it provides a rare glimpse into the evolution of currency, helping bridge the past with the present. The event was specially designed to attract both numismatist professional and a wide range of visitors,” Harvindeer Kour, Secretary JKAACL who was chief guest on the occasion, stated that the exhibition serves as a valuable connection to our cultural heritage. She commended JawaharJyoti, a retired bank employee, for his passion and dedication in collecting such rare and historically significant coins. She urged educational institutions, particularly universities, to encourage their students and scholars to attend the exhibition to gain insights into this remarkable collection. She said that the general public should to visit the exhibition.
In his address, Jawahar Jyoti shared that his collection spans various periods, from the British era to the Dogra regime, and continues to the present day. He highlighted that commemorative coins with denominations such as Rs25, Rs50, Rs60, Rs75, Rs90, Rs100, Rs125, Rs150, Rs175, Rs200, Rs250, Rs350, Rs400, Rs500, Rs525, Rs550, and Rs1000, which were not meant for circulation, are also on display.
The exhibition will continue to offer the public a chance to explore this rich collection until 8th September during 11 AM to 5PM serving as an educational and cultural platform for all visitors.
