Amid reports that the psychoanalytic profiling of the accused in the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata found him to have an “animal-like instinct”, CCTV footage showed that he was stalking the victim hours before the heinous crime.
According to media reports, the footage showed Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer, staring at the victim and four other doctors. “The CCTV footage captures Roy glaring towards them,” News18 quoted a source as saying.
Police had earlier said Sanjay Roy confessed to observing the victim at the chest medicine ward hours before the crime. Now, it appears that the CCTV evidence corroborated his claim.
After her shift, the victim went to the seminar hall at 1 am on August 9 to rest. Another doctor reportedly spoke to her at 2.30 am, after which the victim went to sleep. She was found dead in the morning.
As per CCTV footage, the accused was seen entering the premises at 4 am. “Footage showed him entering the same building again at around 4 am on August 9. Certain technical and scientific evidence corroborated that,” a CBI officer had said.
Meanwhile, the psychoanalytic profiling of the accused suggested that the 35-year-old had “animal-like instincts”. According to a CBI officer, the profiling also found that he is a “pervert and severely addicted to pornography.”
According to CBI, which is investigating the case, the accused showed no remorse during the interrogation. “The man showed no repentance and narrated the entire episode giving every minute detail without hiccups. It appeared he had no remorse,” a CBI officer has been quoted as saying.
