The Indian Army organized a tree plantation drive at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Nardi Bala, Akhnoor on August 9, 2024, under the theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.” This initiative aligns with the broader national campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on World Environment Day, July 5, 2024. The “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign aims to honor motherhood and promote environmental sustainability by encouraging tree planting across the country.
During the event, more than 100 trees were planted by a group of enthusiastic participants, including 50 NCC cadets from the 2nd Battalion NCC, 50 students, and teachers from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. The drive was a reflection of the Indian Army’s commitment to environmental conservation and its role in fostering a greener future.
The campaign was spearheaded by the Ministry of Defence, which set an ambitious target to plant 15 lakh trees nationwide. The initiative was carried out in collaboration with various organizations, including the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Defence Public Sector Undertakings (Def PSU), Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA), National Cadet Corps (NCC), Sainik Schools, and Ordnance factories. This collective effort underscores the government’s dedication to addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainability across different sectors. The plantation drive at Nardi Bala not only contributed to the national goal but also raised awareness among the young participants about the importance of environmental stewardship. The involvement of NCC cadets and students highlights the significance of engaging youth in conservation efforts, fostering a sense of responsibility toward nature, and nurturing a culture of environmental consciousness. By planting trees in the name of mothers, the campaign beautifully connects the nurturing essence of motherhood with the life-giving role of trees, emphasizing the profound impact of both in sustaining life on Earth.
