NEW DELHI, Aug 8
As India approaches the long weekend encompassing Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan, Airbnb has reported a substantial increase in travel-related searches. Indian travellers are showing a marked enthusiasm for both domestic and international trips, eager to maximize the extended break.
Airbnb’s latest data reveals an impressive 340 percent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) surge in domestic searches for stays during this period. This indicates a growing trend among Indian travellers to explore local destinations during short breaks. Goa, Lonavala, Puducherry, Mumbai, Bengaluru, New Delhi, and Udaipur have emerged as the top-searched domestic locations. Amanpreet Bajaj, Airbnb’s General Manager for India, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, noted the rising interest in domestic travel. “The data underscores a growing trend amongst Indian travellers to explore domestic destinations during short breaks and long weekends as they are easily accessible. At Airbnb, we are excited to offer a wide range of stays as people explore new locations and immerse themselves in the local culture through our host offerings,” he said. This surge in travel interest reflects a broader trend of Indian travellers opting for convenient, nearby getaways to make the most of long weekends, with Airbnb playing a key role in facilitating these experiences.

As the Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan weekend approaches, the platform’s diverse offerings are set to cater to this heightened demand, helping travellers create memorable experiences across the country.
