Director felicitates scholar, says it is proud moment for entire Institute

A Ph.D. scholar from National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar has won the Men’s Singles Championship title with a 4-1 set victory against a player from GMC Srinagar.
Er Wasid Farooq Reshi, Ph.D. scholar in Civil Engineering Department at NIT Srinagar won the championship with a 4-1 set victory against Dr. Rouf Ahmad of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar.
The table tennis championship, organized by the Indian Army under OP-Sadbhavana, was held at the Youth Development Centre in Srinagar from 1st to 2nd August 2024. Around 90 participants from various districts across the valley competed in the tournament.
Er Wasid Farooq Reshi expressed his deep gratitude to Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath; Indian Army, Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Atikur Rahman; Prof. MS Mir, Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr.Janani L, Students Activity and Sports Centre, and other staff members for their constant encouragement and support.
Meanwhile, Er Wasid was felicitated by Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath. AR (Special Secretary to Director) Shahid Hamid, SAS Officer Kowsar Ali Mir, Sohail Ahmad Baba (SAS Assistant), and Dr. Kurella Swamy were present on the occasion.
Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, congratulated Er Wasid for winning the championship. He said it is a proud moment for the entire Institute.
He also highlighted the importance of such events in fostering a vibrant academic environment on campus, promoting both physical well-being and academic excellence among students. “Participating in sports activities develops valuable skills among individuals that extend beyond the playing field,” Director NIT Srinagar added.
In his message, Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Atikur Rahman said that over the past several years, NIT Srinagar has developed state-of-the-art sports facilities on campus.
“Sports bring people together, and such tournaments are important in providing a stress-free environment. We will continue to support such events in the future,” he said. SAS Officer Kowsar Ali Mir added that the Students Activity and Sports Centre is actively organizing multiple sports events in and outside campus for students.
“These activities will not only enhance physical fitness but also foster teamwork and discipline,” she added.
