Heavy rains on Wednesday created havoc with drain water gushed into the residential areas in some parts of the Jammu city.
The water level in the River Tawi was also increased due to overnight rains in the upper reaches.
Heavy rains created havoc in Jammu city and triggered water-logging of roads that caused trouble to commuters.
Rain water gushed inside the houses in many lowlying areas of Jammu city including Bhagwati Nagar, Talab Tillo, Jewel Chowk, Rajinder Nagar, Qasim Nagar, Kabir Colony, Jeevan Nagar, Vinayak Bazar, Dogra Chowk, Green Belt and many other locations.
All national highways including strategic Jammu-Srinagar is also through for the traffic, said a traffic official.
He said that the LMVs are being allowed to move during the day time while the HMVs like trucks, containers will be allowed on the highway later afternoon.
Meanwhile despite heavy rains, the yatra on Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Cave Shrine track continued but inclement weather conditions hit the chopper service to the shrine and it remained suspended.
No major untoward like incident was reported from any part of the Jammu district.
The weatherman however, said that the risk of flash flood, mudslide, landslides has also increased due to heavy rain and people are advised to remain cautious and stay away from streams, rivers and other vulnerable spots.
He said that in the last 24 hours, significant rainfall was reported in Rajouri (74 mm), Jammu (48.5 mm) and Ramban (17.5 mm).
In a fresh forecast, the MeT official said that on August 8-9, brief showers during day time with a spell of rain, thundershower at scattered places mainly during late night and early morning while on August 10-11, a brief spell of rain and thundershower at scattered places of Kashmir Division and from August 12 to 15 a brief spell of rain and thundershower at few places during day time with Light to moderate rain and thundershower at many places over Jammu Division and few places of Kashmir Division towards late night and early morning.
“Intense showers for brief period with possibility of fash floods, landslides and shooting stones over vulnerable places of J&K and heavy Rainfall at isolated places of Jammu Division,” he said.
