DOGRA HERALD BUREAU
JAMMU, June 27
The NCC Cadets and staff from the NCC Directorate Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, trained by the 4 J&K Battalion NCC as part of NCC Group Jammu, visited Sher-E-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST)-Jammu. This exposure and awareness trip was part of a broader campaign aimed at achieving the NCC’s mission of creating organized, trained, and motivated youth who can succeed in various walks of life. This visit aligns with the vision of introducing cadets to modern agricultural practices.
During the visit, Dr. Susheel Sharma briefed the cadets and provided technical knowledge on mushroom farming. This session was followed by a visit to the Department of Honey Farming, where Dr. Devender explained the processes and storage methods involved in honey production.
The cadets learned about processing and packaging, with a focus on igniting entrepreneurial spirit. The cadets were also introduced to hydroponics in a Poly House with a fan and pad system, where PhD students passionately explained the temperature regulation needed for suitable growing conditions. Additionally, important aspects of Agro-business and Agro-tourism were also highlighted. This visit aimed to raise awareness among the cadets about modern agricultural practices and government schemes that provide subsidies to empower and enable the youth.
The NCC views its cadets as agents of positive change, especially those from rural and humble backgrounds who were inspired by the visit. The NCC is committed to being a facilitator in training youth on contemporary initiatives and contributing to society holistically. Major General Rajesh Kumar Sachdeva, ADG of NCC Directorate Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, expressed gratitude to Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu, Dr. B.N. Tripathi, for facilitating this initiative aimed at empowering the youth. NCC is poised to play a crucial role in achieving the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India).
