Hyderabad, June 6
The swearing-in of Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh is likely to be postponed to June 12 from June 9, as he has to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in on June 8.
TDP spokesperson K Pattabhi Ram said that Naidu wants to avoid having to reach Amaravati hurriedly after attending Modi’s swearing-in in New Delhi. The TDP chief has also invited a number of BJP leaders to the ceremony in the state capital.
“He will be sworn in most likely on June 12. Chandrababu will be in Delhi on June 7 for the NDA parliamentary party meeting and will attend the swearing-in on June 8. He will return to Amaravati a day after that and will be sworn in on June 12,” Pattabhi Ram said.
Jana Sena Party (JSP) chief K Pawan Kalyan, who has been elected for the first time to the Assembly, will also accompany Naidu to New Delhi.
Senior TDP leaders have requested police to maintain a vigil at the secretariat in Amaravati and other government offices to prevent anyone from destroying any documents or records.
The TDP-led NDA has scored a landslide victory in the Assembly elections, winning 164 seats while the YSRCP was reduced to just 11 seats. The TDP on its own won 135 seats, the JSP 21 and the BJP eight seats.
In the simultaneously held Lok Sabha elections, the TDP won 16 seats while the BJP got three and the JSP two seats. The YSRCP bagged four seats.
Several newly elected TDP MLA and MPs will meet Naidu at his Undavalli residence on Thursday. He will also hold meetings with senior IAS and IPS officers. Security outside his residence has been increased.
Meanwhile, Naidu, other TDP leaders and Pawan Kalyan have appealed to their supporters not to heckle or clash with YSRCP supporters. This came after TDP and JSP supporters pulled down YSRCP flags and symbols from some places and buildings.
