Dogra Hr Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Ecology & Remote Sensing, Jammu, celebrated World Environment Day with great enthusiasm and fervor. The event was held under the guidance and leadership of Kunwar Gambhir Dev Singh Charak, Worthy Managing Director of DHSS, on 28th May 2024, marked by various activities aimed at raising awareness about environmental conservation and sustainability. The anchor of the event was Mrs. Eisha Gupta.
The function commenced with a warm welcome address, followed by a traditional lamp lighting ceremony. Esteemed dignitaries included Chief Guest Mr. Sajjad Ahmed Khan, DFO & Environment Soil Conservationist, Dr. Kirti Joshi, Program Officer EIACP, Mr. Anil Sharma, Range Officer, Mrs. Hency, In-Charge Mass Media, and Mr. Chetan, Data Entry Operator – EIACP.
The Managing Director of Dogra Hr Sec School, Kunwar Gambhir Dev Singh Charak, also shared valuable insights, emphasizing the school’s commitment to sustainability. The Principal, Mrs. Devinder Kour, delivered an inspiring address, encouraging students to be proactive in protecting the environment.
The highlight of the event was the insightful address by the Chief Guest, Mr. Sajjad Ahmed Khan, Environment Soil Conservationist, who lauded the efforts of the school. The Chief Guest stressed the importance of collective efforts in mitigating environmental challenges and urged the students to be torchbearers of change.
Students from the school choir showcased their musical talents, emphasizing the theme of environmental preservation. A serene yoga session led by Yoga Instructor, Mrs. Balvinder, highlighted the importance of physical and mental well-being in harmony with nature.
Slogan writing and quiz competitions on themes such as “Conservation of Earth,” “Restoration of Land,” and “Waste Management and Land Degradation Prevention” saw enthusiastic participation from the students.
The quiz competition included a question session for four teams from the higher classes, with Team B, comprising Shristi Mishra, Shweta, Damini, and Khushi, emerging as the winners.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Miss Shivani, acknowledging the contributions of all participants, teachers, and organizers. Prizes for the competitions will be awarded on the official World Environment Day, 5th June 2024. The event concluded with the singing of the National Anthem, fostering a sense of unity and patriotism among the participants.
This was followed by the distribution of refreshments, providing a delightful end to the day’s activities.
