Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh on Tuesday chaired a crucial review meeting focusing on implementation of two significant initiatives-the Prime Minister’s Scheme for the Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) and the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative. These nationwide efforts, spearheaded by the Government of India, aim to identify and promote unique indigenous products in the districts.
Key district officials, including the Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO), Chief Horticulture Officer, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Assistant Director Fisheries, Area Marketing Officer, District Lead Bank Manager, and Cluster Head of J&K Bank convened for the meeting.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed the importance of identifying distinctive products from the Doda district for promotion under the ODOP initiative. He urged officials to collaborate effectively to ensure the successful implementation of these schemes, designed to invigorate the local economy and support micro food processing enterprises.
The meeting delved into various aspects of the PMFME and ODOP initiatives, with particular emphasis placed on the production of local delicacies such as jams, pickles, candies, and milk products. Additionally, discussions centered on achieving targets, addressing challenges hindering the processing of indigenous products, and laying groundwork for establishing storage facilities.
During the meeting, threadbare discussion on implementation of PMFME scheme was conducted
The PMFME scheme, initiated by the Government of India, aims to bolster micro food processing enterprises nationwide by providing financial aid, capacity building, and infrastructure support.
This initiative seeks to elevate competitiveness, foster entrepreneurship, and ensure the availability of safe, nutritious food for consumers, thereby integrating micro food processing units into the mainstream industry.
