To mark the World Dance Day, the Central University of Jammu organized a cultural evening featuring Kathak Dance in collaboration with SPIC MACAY society, New Delhi. The performance was delivered by Ms. Monisa Nayak of Jaipur Gharana, an artist of international fame who has been bestowed with Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar by Sangeet Natak Akademi, Govt. of India. By her performance, she not only mesmerised the students but her interactive delivery of dance passed the message that Kathak is the amalgamation of devotion and art.
The event was envisioned by Prof. Sanjeev Jain Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the University as the most effective mechanism of connecting students to their cultural roots.
Prof Yashwant Singh, Registrar of the University, appreciated Prof Ritu Bakshi, Dean Student’ s welfare and Dr Vinay Kumar, Associate Dean for organizing first ever SPIC MACAY event in the university. He highlighted the importance of such performances as an integral part of academic and co-curricular activities of students for their holistic growth and development.
The event was coordinated and executed by Dr. Nancy Mengi and Dr. Bhawana Arora, the convenor and co-convenor of the CU Jammu SPIC MACAY CLUB.
Other artists who performed were Mohd. Akram, Priyanka Kumari, Pankaj Rawat.
