Natrang celebrates International Day of Dance, honours Sunny Mujoo

In connection with the celebrations of World Dance Day, Natrang Jammu held an exclusive function and honoured Sunny Mujoo-A prominent dancer and choreographer for his contribution in the enrichment of traditional and contemporary dance traditions of Jammu and Kashmir.
The felicitations were done by Natrang Director Padmashree Balwant Thakur in an exclusive function at Natrang Studio Theatre, Jammu. He was joined by senior functionary of Natrang Neeraj Kant and others including Mohd. Yaseen, Kushal Bhat, Vishal Sharma, Chaitanaya Shekhar, Kananpreet Kaur, Mehak Chib and Lalita Devi.
Speaking on the occasion, Natrang Director Balwant Thakur said that this has always been an endeavor of Natrang to recognize versatile talents in various fields of performing arts and felicitate them so others also take inspiration from such aspiring outstanding artists . Balwant Thakur informed that this day was founded by the dance committee of the International Theatre Institute formed by UNESCO, Paris. Since 1982, this day is celebrated every year all over the world with the motive to let people value the importance of this wonderful art form’Dance’. This is also an occasion to act as a wakeup call for Governments, politicians and the civil society asking them to recognise the importance and significance of this important human activity.
Speaking about Sunny Mujoo, Balwant Thakur said that he is a witness to his performances in both the houses of British Parliament (UK) and historic Trafalgar square, London where he performed as the lead dancer showcasing the diverse dance traditions of Jammu and Kashmir before global audiences.
He is a multifaceted artist having worked immensely as an actor, model, dancer and a choreographer. As a theatre artist, he achieved a lot of success. Fact remains that it was theatre which groomed him as an artist. He worked as a child artist with Song & Drama division.
Further, he worked with other groups as an actor. ‘Baby’ & ‘Ravmutt Batt’ are one of the best plays of his theatre work. He was awarded with certificate of merit by Academy of Art culture & Languages for best acting in the play ‘Baby’ & ‘Ravmutt Batt’. Besides this, he also worked with Natrang under the direction of Padamshri Balwant Thakur and acted and performed in Bawa Jitto, Jammu Kashmir Festival, ‘Rangla Jammu’, Bhaderwah Festival and prestigious G20 Kashmir as a choreographer. In television, he started his acting career from the age of 9 years in 1994 as a child artist in Telefilm ‘Parvas’ for DD1. He also enacted in many short films & Ad films as a child artist.
He also performed in TV serial ‘Lavaris & Radha’ for Doordarshan Jammu. He also worked in different TV serials for Star Plus under the guidance of KK Raina (Safed Jharne ka Matmela Pani Malded’s Maika serial for Zee TV also).
Moreover, he also performed in many serials for National Television such as Phuley, Gulrej, 31 ki Raat, Raaj teerangini, Hawaein, Lawaris and lately the popular series Pashmina.
