SERB-sponsored workshop on fatigue, fracture study begins at NIT Srinagar

A week-long workshop on “The Fracture and Fatigue Study Using Experimental and Numerical Modeling Techniques” commenced today at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, under the auspices of the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) through its Karyashala scheme.
The workshop, scheduled from April 19 to April 25, 2024, has attracted participation from students hailing from various corners of the country, aiming to delve into the intricacies of fatigue and fracture phenomena.
The inauguration ceremony, held on April 19, was graced by esteemed dignitaries and key personnel from the academic community.
The ceremony began with a warm welcome address by Dr. Ved Prakash Sharma, the Coordinator of the workshop, who introduced the chief guest, patrons, coordinators, faculty members, and participants.
Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath, conveyed his best wishes for the success of the workshop. While Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman was Chief Guest on the occasion.
In his address, Prof. Rahman emphasized the significance of collaborative efforts in advancing research and educational endeavours. He underscored the importance of workshops like this in nurturing a culture of innovation and excellence in academic institutions.
Prof. (HAG), GA Harmain (Dean Faculty Welfare) delivered an insightful welcome address, highlighting the workshop’s pivotal role in enhancing the understanding of fracture and fatigue phenomena.
He stressed the importance of such interdisciplinary gatherings in fostering holistic learning and knowledge exchange.
Prof. Adnan Qayoum, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Chairman of the organizing committee, expressed his enthusiasm for the workshop’s potential to broaden horizons and facilitate collaborative research endeavors.
His message emphasized the workshop’s role in fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and advancing knowledge in the field of materials science.
In his message, Dr. Shahid Saleem, Chairman of the Central Purchase Unit, emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing research and educational endeavors.
The organizing committee, led by coordinators Dr. Ved Prakash Sharma, Dr. Manoj Kumar, Dr. Azher Jameel, Dr. Deepak Naik, Dr. Sandeep Rathee, and Dr. Dinesh Rajendran, has meticulously planned a series of lectures and laboratory sessions facilitated by faculties from prestigious institutions such as IITs and NITs.
The inauguration ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Ved Prakash Sharma, the workshop coordinator, expressing gratitude to all participants, patrons, and attendees for their support and encouragement.
The workshop aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of experimental and numerical modeling techniques related to fatigue and fracture behavior, equipping them with valuable skills and insights for their future endeavors in the field of materials science and engineering.
