AFMS and IIT Delhi Join Hands for Collaborative Research and Training

In a significant development, the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi on 22nd April 2024. The MoU, aimed at fostering collaborative research and training, was signed by Lt Gen Daljit Singh, Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services, and Prof Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi.
The scope of this MoU is extensive, encompassing collaborative research and innovation to develop novel medical devices and address health issues specific to serving soldiers in various terrains. This collaboration is expected to leverage the technical expertise of IIT Delhi’s robust biomedical research ecosystem to tackle the diverse medical challenges faced by the Armed Forces, including the rehabilitation of amputees
One of the key components of this collaboration is a faculty exchange program, which will facilitate the exchange of ideas and knowledge between AFMS and IIT Delhi. Joint academic activities and the development of joint PhD programs are also planned under this MoU, aimed at furthering research and training initiatives beneficial to both organizations.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Daljit Singh highlighted AFMS’s commitment to providing the highest level of medical care to soldiers. He emphasized that collaboration with institutes of national importance, such as IIT Delhi, is a significant step towards fulfilling this commitment. Prof Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, echoed this sentiment, stating that the MoU opens up a plethora of possibilities for research and training that will benefit the nation and the Armed Forces. The collaboration between AFMS and IIT Delhi comes at a time when the healthcare sector is facing unprecedented challenges. By combining their expertise and resources, both organizations aim to address critical healthcare needs and contribute to advancements in medical science and technology.
