Apni Party Provincial President, Jammu, and Former Minister, S. Manjit Singh today demanded enhancement of reservation quota to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) people in Jammu and Kashmir up to 27 %.
As per a press release, a meeting was chaired by the Former Minister at Vijaypur in which the OBC members of the Party were present.
During the meeting, the leaders discussed the present political situation and the granting of 8% of reservation to the OBCs in Jammu and Kashmir, while terming it injustice with the community which suffered for the last seven decades.
While addressing the meeting, the Former Minister, S. Manjit Singh highlighted the contribution of the OBCs including the Jatts to the country and in defending its borders.
He however expressed his dissatisfaction over the reservation quota i.e., 8 % and demanded that the quota must be enhanced up to 27% in Jammu and Kashmir at par with the other states of the country.
He said that the granting of 8% reservation is not sufficient to uplift the living standard of the OBC people, including Jatts because they have a huge population, and the reservation must be granted as per the population ratio.
On the other hand, he said that the income slab that has been fixed to get the OBC reservation certificate should be scrapped for the benefit of the OBC category people.
To strengthen the OBC Wing, the Party’s Provincial President Jammu S. Manjit Singh announced the OBC committee.
