The District Election office Bandipora on Tuesday organised an awareness programme under Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) for specially abled persons at Government Girls High School Sumbal.
The programme was aimed to raise awareness about the importance of ensuring equal participation in the electoral process for individuals with special needs.
The programme was attended by Nodal Officer Man Power and Trainings (Chief Education Officer) Dr. G. M. Pujoo; Nodal Officer SVEEP (Principal NM Higher Secondary School) Ab. Rasheed Lone; Election Icon/ General Secretary Handicapped Association J&K, Nazir Ahmad Lone; Coordinator SVEEP Arsalan Habib and specially abled persons besides other concerned. Nodal officer Man Power Management and Nodal officer SVEEP highlighted various facilities available at polling stations for specially abled persons to ensure their participation.
The speakers said that electoral authorities are committed to provide the necessary support to facilitate participation of specially abled persons and polling stations are equipped with ramps and wheel chairs besides trained persons shall be available to provide assistance to voters with special needs.
Coordinator SVEEP activities said that the programme was conducted to educate individuals with special abilities about their voting rights, the accessibility of polling stations, and available support services.
Speaking on the occasion, election Icon Nazir Ahmad Lone urged public particularly individuals with special abilities to exercise their fundamental right to vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He said participation in the democratic process is vital for building an inclusive society that represents the diverse needs and perspectives of all its members. Later, the SVEEP team District Bandipora also visited transit accommodation Odina Sumbal and interacted with migrant employees as part of awareness generation programme under SVEEP.
